Live Free or Die Hard is a 2007 American action thriller film directed by Len Wiseman. It serves as the fourth installment in the Die Hard film series, following the 1995 film Die Hard with a Vengeance. The movie draws inspiration from a 1997 Wired magazine article titled A Farewell to Arms by John Carlin. The film follows NYPD Detective John McClane, portrayed by Bruce Willis, as he confronts a cyber-terrorist named Thomas Gabriel, played by Timothy Olyphant. Gabriel orchestrates a fire sale cyber attack targeting America's critical infrastructure systems. The supporting cast includes Justin Long as Matt Farrell, a hacker, alongside Cliff Curtis, Maggie Q, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Kevin Smith.
